The pending construction work in the Kilambakkam bus terminus has been the subject for discussion now!!
It is now said that with the upcoming festival season and delay in the Kilambakkam bus terminus there would not be an end to the traffic congestion woes in southern Chennai suburbs. Supposed to be inaugurated in 2021 itself the Kilambakkam bus terminus is still not yet completed and this has been due to the Coronavirus pandemic. It is known that CMDA has been responsible for the construction of this new bus terminus.
It must be mentioned here that September was kept as the deadline for the inauguration of Kilambakkam bus terminus and this was earlier in 2022 when Coronavirus lockdown norms were relaxed. It is true that the TN government has decided to shift the south bound buses to Kilambakkam bus terminus from the present Koyambedu bus terminus to avoid traffic congestion. The superb piece of information is that the Kilambakkam bus terminus can handle 2400 buses daily.
The construction of platforms and bus bays has reached the final stage at the Kilambakkam bus terminus. The parking lots and road work are not yet over here. Even in this year too, Tambaram and Perungalathur would remain as a transit hub for the buses.
Tambaram - Chengalpet highway is already full of traffic and the vehicles move very slowly and this was as per a resident from Singaperumal Koil. The pending bridge work at Perungalathur has been the reason for the vehicles moving at snail`s pace. He spoke about how when the Kilambakkam bus terminus get opened then traffic congestion would be avoided at Perungalathur. It is now brought out that in this year also there could be a repeat of what happened last year. The police personnel divert the buses but cars and private vehicles lead to heavy traffic congestion.
