The counselling for admission to the graduate engineering courses for the candidates belonging to the common or general cadre is scheduled to commence tomorrow (Saturday, 10th September).

There are 148811 seats available for the graduate engineering courses in431 engineering colleges throughout Tamil Nadu functioning under Anna University.

The counselling for admission to the above seats for pursuing graduate engineering courses commenced on 20th August.

In the first phase, counselling for admission to graduate engineering courses was conducted for a special cadre – Heirs of ex-military personnel, differently-abled candidates, and sports specialists – was conducted from 20th August until 24th August. 668 students were given admission for seats in this first phase of counselling.

Subsequently, the counselling for the common or general cadre candidates which was scheduled to be conducted on 25th August was delayed due to the delayed release of the NEET (National Entrance-cum-eligibility Test for admission to the graduate medical courses) and postponed.

In this scenario, the results of NEET were released day-before-yesterday (7th September). As such, the counselling for admission to the graduate engineering courses for the common or general cadre is scheduled to commence tomorrow (Saturday, 10th September). More than 1.57 Lakh candidates are participating in this counselling session.

The officials of the Department of Higher Education shared regarding this schedule:

"The counselling for admission to the graduate engineering courses for the candidates belonging to the common or general cadre is scheduled to be conducted in 4 PHASES from tomorrow until 13th November.

The 7.5% quota for the government high school students will be allotted in each phase.

Once the first session of counselling is completed, a supplementary commissioning session to fill up the vacant seats will be conducted from 15th to 17th November and the counselling for the cadre of SC (Scheduled Caste) is scheduled to be conducted on the 19th & 20th November.

As the scoring of marks in the current year, NEET has not been very high, it is expected that the number of admissions to graduate engineering courses will increase.
