The Chennai Metro Rail Company has decided to convert the existing Chennai Metro City Broadway Bus Terminus into a mammoth project of a 21-storeyed complex for Rs. 900/- Crores into Busy Bus Terminal!
The First Phase of the Chennai Metro Rail Company was the setting up of 2 corridors of Metro Rail Service covering a distance of 54.1 km – from WIMCONAGAR to Chennai Airport and from Chennai Central Railway Station to St. Thomas Mount (Parangimalai). The first phase has been completed and is in operation.
Presently, the 2nd Phase of the Metro Rail Project is in progress and full swing! The 2nd Phase cost is Rs. 69180 Crores covering a distance of 118.90 km.
In this situation, the Chennai Metro Rail Company has decided to commence a project `Multi-Modal Integration`, setting up Bus Terminals in Chennai Metro City linking all types of transport facilities available in Chennai Metro City!
As per this, in the first phase of this project, `Multi-Modal Integration`, New Transport Terminals will be set up in Guindy and Washermanpet. In the 2nd Phase of the Project, Multi-Modal Integration will be set up in 12 more locations!
As a continuation, earlier, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) was planning to set up a similar Multi-Modal Integration in the Chennai Broadway Bus Terminus. Now, the Chennai Metro Rail Company has decided to execute this project! A Detailed Project Report (DPR) is to be prepared for this project.
The Main Features of the Chennai Broadway Bus Terminal:
· The Present Broadway Bus Terminus will be transformed into a large commercial complex a 21-storeyed complex for Rs. 900 Crores.
· It is designed to operate 97 buses at the same time!
· 53 buses can be accommodated on the Ground Floor Level and another 44 buses can be accommodated at the Basement Level.
· Facilities to park 2-wheelers and 4-wheelers on the next 2 floors!
· The remaining floors will be a commercial complex part.
· This terminal will link Chennai Metro City Fort Railway Station (suburban_, Chennai High Court Metro Station, and the Chennai Metro City Bus Terminus.
