Security stepped up for Independence Day

The Chennai City Police have deployed thousands of police and paramilitary personnel especially near St Fort George where chief minister J Jayalalithaa will unfurl the tricolour.
Many closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras are installed in and around St Fort George and a few temporary CCTV cameras are expected to be installed. Specialised units like Quick Reaction Teams and Swift Action Groups are being deployed. Besides patrolling of the skies by Coast Guard helicopters, an air defence mechanism will also be put in place.
