As the discharge of water from the Chembarambakkam reservoir has been increased to 500 cft, the residents in the neighbouring areas have been alerted to be safe!
Due to the recent incessant rain since the onset of the northeast monsoon rainy season, the inflow of water to the Chembarambakkam reservoir is high and presently, the capacity of this reservoir is 2862/3645 million cft!
As the water level reached the level of 21.03/24 feet, giving due consideration of the reservoir, the water discharged from the 2nd and 3rd shutters of the reservoir have been icreased from 100 cft to 500 cft as decided by the Kanchipuram District administration officials.
As such, the district collector has warned the residents of the higher water flow, in the canal and the Adyar river, in locations including Kundrathur, Sirukalathur, Thirumudivakkam, and Vazhuthavambedu
Though the intensity of the Northeast monsoon seasonal rain has reduced since yesterday night until now, in case of excessive rains in the coming days, the inflow of water to the Chembarambakkam reservoir will increase and the water level in the reservoir will also increase!
As such, as a precautionary action, the rate of discharge of water from the Chembarambakkam reservoir has been increased from 100 cft to 500 cft and the Chembarambakkam reservoir is continuously BEING monitored 24 HOURS! As the canal has been desilted and Adyar River has also been desilted, and the canal widened and the banks strengthened the administration officials informed us it would be safe even if the discharge rate is increased!
