Rains have been lashing Chennai and its neighbouring districts now and many areas are under water. People have been facing many issues due to the heavy rains now. Efforts are going on to remove water also in many places. It is now said that water release has been increased from Puzhal Lake due to the heavy rains. Earlier, it was 100 cubic feet and now it is increased to 500 cubic feet. This Puzhal Lake supplies drinking water to Chennai city is a well known fact.
This 3300 mcft capacity Puzhal Lake has been filled with 2738 mcft of water today morning. It must be noted that 558 cubic feet of water is flowing into this lake per second. For drinking water requirements of Chennai residents, 158 cubic feet of water was being discharged. Truth is that due to heavy rains in and around Thiruvallur etc, water release from this lake has been increased now.
According to the district collector Mr. Alby john Verghese, due to the heavy rains from today morning 10:30 am onwards 100 cubic feet of excess water that was being discharged has been increased to 500 cubic feet of water. The people living in the low lying places have been issued a warning now by the district administration regarding their safety.
