Clearing the baggage at the Chennai airport has been time consuming and causing lots of hardships for the passengers. This issue won`t be there in the future.
For ground handling, the Airport Authorities of India or AAI has finalised 2 more firms. They would be addressing the long pending complaints of baggage delays at the Arrival Hall of the airport.
It is learnt that the Celebi Airport Services and Globe Ground India have emerged as the lowest bidders. Soon, these 2 firms would be handed over the contracts.
According to an officer belonging to AAI till now one firm has been taking care of ground handling services like managing the baggage transportation and providing different types of assistance to the airlines. He hinted that 2 more firms would be doing ground handling services. By this, there would be more staff available and there would be reduction in the delays in the arrival of baggage from airport to the terminal. The baggage would be shifted faster at the departure hall also and due to this check-in queues might reduce.
Information collected is that the ground handling services would be available in both domestic as well as in the international terminals in Chennai airport. The airport would be able to choose the services of either of these three firms. In another 2 or 3 months, these 2 firms would be starting their services at the airport.
