Just 2400 MTC or Metropolitan Transport Corporation buses plied on the Chennai roads on Friday due to heavy rains. It is known that the normally 3150 MTC buses would be available for the passengers.
There was water logging in some places and due to this the number of passengers were less than usual. As a result, MTC operated fewer buses. This was according to a senior official from MTC. He hinted that the frequency of the buses would be increased based on the situation.
On all the 4 sections, the Chennai division of Southern Railways or SR operated train services and due to this the suburban trains saw huge crowds. The absence of water on the railway tracks was the reason why the train services operated normally. This was according to an officer from Southern Railways.
On Friday, due to the heavy rains, GCTP and GCC associated together and closed the subways at Rangarajapuram and Surapattu Vinayagapuram in Madhavaram.
