E-vehicle revolution in Chennai soon!!
In future, don`t be surprised if you come across a common e-vehicle charging station in Chennai. The GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation would facilitate e-vehicle manufacturers to set up common e-vehicle charging stations in Chennai. For this, the TN govt has formed an expert team with Tangedco as the nodal agency to study the possibilities to bring the universal charging e-stations all at one point.
It is well known that at present each of the car companies have kept their own charging station with their own specifications. The main issue now is that some of these charging stations in Chennai do not support fast charging and due to this commuters take a long time to charge their vehicles.
It was pointed out by the divisional electrical engineer, GCC Mr. M. Elangovan that there is no universal charging in Chennai now. As the power output is low in some e-vehicle charging stations and in some stations there are no chances of fast charging etc, it is not possible to charge e-vehicles at any given charging station. He revealed that the goal was to maximize universal charging.
It must be taken into note that to charge a 3.7 KWH battery electric scooter it would take nearly 5 hours in normal charging to reach 100percent. It is now said that private players would be taken into consideration for discussing the slow charging of e-vehicles and make them set up fast charging stations to help the commuters.
