Paying the electricity bills has become an issue now for many consumers in Chennai and across TN with EB insisting on linking Aadhar number with the electricity service connection number.

It must be recalled that the EB or electricity board has asked its consumers to link their Aadhaar number with the electricity service connection number. Many consumers logged on to the website of the electricity board for linking their Aadhaar number and electricity service connection number.

This has led to servers going down and due to this the consumers were unable to link their Aadhaar number and electricity connection number. Public were not able to pay their electricity bills and faced issues. After receiving many complaints from the consumers, the EB has announced 2 additional days for paying the electricity bills between 24th to 30th November.

Many consumers thronged online as well the EB office counters to link their Aadhaar number and their electricity connection. This has led to paralysing the internet service at EB offices.

It was brought out by few consumers that they have been trying online to link their Aadhaar number and connection number but were unsuccessful. At the EB office too, the internet server went down and linking Aadhaar number with electricity connection was not possible. It must be noted that the linking work takes 30 minutes to 45minutes atleast per person on an average and due to this the consumer would have to wait for a long time.

Many consumers are now fearing that the free electricity of 100 units and subsidy of up to 500 units would get cancelled if they do not link Aadhaar number with the electricity connection.  The consumers want 6 months of time now.

The minister for electricity Mr. Senthil Balaji spoke about how for making reforms in electricity linking of Aadhar number with the connection was essential.
