The hospitals belonging to the Chennai city have been witnessing an increase in the acute diarrhoeal and food poisoning cases now. This has made many to worry. It is brought out that the seasonal changes plus rise in the infectious cases have ebn responsible for this surge in the waterborne and foodborne diseases in Chennai now.
There would be contamination of food and water at this time normally and this would be the reason for the surge now. This was according to some experts.
As per Dr. M. Jagadeesan, Chennai city health officer, there is slight increase in the diarrhoeal cases now and that was common during the season. He added that the residents must go to the nearby hospitals or UPHCs etc to get treated for the infection at an early stage itself. By this, there would be better management of the infection.
It was later revealed by some doctors that the surge in the infections was due to consuming contaminated food and water. The residents must be careful while eating raw food items and foods outside. It must be taken into note that raw meat or sea foods etc would not be boiled or cooked properly and this might lead to diseases in us.
Dr. Gautham belonging to RGGGH in Chennai spoke about how generally there would be a spike in the cases of diseases such as cholera, typhoid, diarrhoea and food poisoning etc. The growth of the microorganisms responsible for the contamination would be more at this time of the year.
About 50percent of waterborne and food borne diseases are now present in the children and they must be careful. This was mentioned by Dr. Mohan Kumar. He hinted that the immunity in the kids would be less as the weather would be favourable for microorganisms growth. He concluded that boiled water and properly cooked food must be made a practice.
