The Cyclone, `Mandous`, presently prevailing over the Bay of Bengal, is presently located 120 km southeast of Chennai Metro City. This has weakened from a severe intensive cyclone to a normal cyclone. In this status, it is expected to cross the coast via Pudhuchery=Sriharikota towards Mamallapuram tonight (Friday, 9th December) at midnight or early morning as per reports from the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre.
In a notification released at 9.30 Am today (Friday, 9th December), the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre informed that there are prospects for intensive heavy downpours in the districts of Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu and Villupuram.
Apart from this, the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre has informed that there are prospects for heavy rains in the districts of Chennai, Thiruvallur, Ranippettai, Vellore, Thirupathur, Thiruvannamalai, Kallakkurichi, Cuddalore and prospects for heavy rains in the districts of Dharmapuri, Salem, Namakkal, Karur, Trichy, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Delta Districts, Pudhukkottai, Sivagangai, Madurai, and Dindigul!
As regards tomorrow (Saturday, 10th December), the Chennai Meteorological Centre has informed us that there are prospects for very heavy to heavy rains in the districts of Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Thirupathur, Vellore, Ranippettai, Thiruvannamalai, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Chennai, and Thiruvallur and prospects for heavy rains in the districts of Nilgiri, Erode, Salem, Kallakkurichi and Villupuram.
