Know about this superb work now being done in Chennai by GCC?

The rains that have lashed Chennai and its neighbourhoods recently has led to water stagnation in several places in the city. Now, Greater Chennai Corporation or GCC  is busy disposing or removing the rainwater as well as sewage water using 300 drilling machines, 177 jettrading machines and 60 sewage suction machines. 

The Metro Water board has released a statement regarding this now. According to the statement, 15 superintending engineers, 15 executive engineers and 156 assistant engineers have been appointed as coordinating officers to carry out the disaster relief works in all the `15 GCC zones in Chennai.

In addition, 15 executive engineers have been appointed as special officers to keep an eye on the field work in the night hours in all the regional offices. It must be taken into account that during the monsoons a special night work team has been constituted with assistant engineer and with necessary staff and machineries etc in all the 15 regional offices under the sub-divisional engineer.

The statement brought out that a total of 537 vehicles including 300 drilling machines, 177 jettrading machines and 60 sewage suction machines have been employed in stormwater. Sewage disposal works to repair blockages in the sewage pipes, residential drains etc.

As many as 311 sewage treatment plants in Chennai have been absorbing sewage and treated at 5 places and discharged properly. To prevent sewage from getting  mixed with drinking water, improvement works have been carried out also. In the main sewage pipes, drilling and maintenance works have been carried out and measures have been taken to avoid any blockage. Ina llthe areas, there is now continuous monitoring works going on.

Immediate action to be taken based on the complaints:

If reported through complaint unit contact number 044 45674567, immediate necessary action would be taken against the complaints from the public about rain water and sewage etc. Public can also use the toll free number 1916 to give complaints.

It is worthy to mention that there are as many aas 16 large water suction machines and92 small water suction machines to pump out the stagnated rainwater at the drinking water supply stations.
