Chennai has been witnessing high intense rains in a short period of time leading to sudden floods.

It is now mentioned that if this continues then the weather anomalies would further intensify and lives in Chennai and across TN would become more hostile in a few decades.

Point to be noted is that the maximum temp would increase by more than 3 degrees Celsius by the end of the century. This was brought to light by a document prepared by the TN Climate Change Mission.

In India, the state of TN is one of the extremities prone states that face more extreme cyclones and drought repeatedly. Truth is that the increased chances of extreme weather spells in Chennai and in the state might affect the health of the public badly. It was hinted by some specific conclusions that there might be an increase of 3.30 degrees Celsius in the daytime and 3.55 degrees Celius at the night time. The rainfall might decrease by 3.24% by the end of the century.

The summers would become hotter with the maximum temperatures above 40 degrees Celius and it would increase drastically. As a result, the environment would become hostile to the ecosystem and for the production of crops etc. There might be more heatwaves and health issues  in the future.

In the 2080s, there would be increased flash floods and storms etc. This was warned by the document. In the future, there would be more one day rainfall instead of 5 days rainfall and due to this the duration of extremities would be reduced but intensity would become more.

The mission director of TN Climate Change Mission Mr. Deepak Bilgi pointed out that the document was prepared by taking into account several studies and this included the reports submitted in the COP-27.
