The stretch on the Thiruvottiyur High Road in north Chennai is grabbing attention now!!
To cross this stretch , the residents have been finding it difficult now. The reason for that was because of the sewage that has been overflowing through the manhole at Old Washermenpet.
There are lots of eateries, shops and clinics etc along this important stretch and due to the overflowing sewage the customers are now hesitating to visit these shops, eateries etc. This has resulted in a huge drop in the businesses here.
It was brought out by a shop owner from Old washermenpet that for the last one year the overflowing sewage leading to water stagnation has been a major issue for many here. He added that after complaining the civic body authorities pump out the stagnating water present on the road. The customers do not show much interest in visiting the shops leading to poor business.
It must be noted that the zonal corporation officials as well as the CMWSSB officials play the blame game between them whenever a complaint goes to them from the public.
During monsoon season, the situation becomes worse and the customers totally avoid the eateries here. Many people hesitate to buy food from the eateries that are close to the sewage water.
It was explained by a resident from Old Washermenpet that on the opposite stretch of the road several works like SWD and drainage connections etc are being provided. He threw light on how no action has been taken till now on this side of the road.
