New AIIMS hospital that will be set up in Madurai & Coimbatore in TN

A new AIIMS or All India Institute for Medical Sciences hospital would be constructed in Madurai in Tamil Nadu. The assurance regarding this was given by the Union health minister Mr. Mansukh Mandavia. This was mentioned by the TN health minister Mr. M. Subramanian. Yesterday, the TN health minister met the Union health minister for health at New Delhi. A petition about various demands associated with the medical sector was given by the TN health minister.
Other prominent personalities who made their presence felt at that time of meeting were Mr. P. Senthilkumar, secretary, TN Health dept and Mr. Aashish Chatterjee, Delhi-Tamil Nadu home secretary.
As per the petition, it was clear that the approval of the president must be obtained for the draft NEET exemption bill that was passed by the TN legislative assembly to the central govt with governor`s approval. It was mentioned that AIIMS hospital must be set up in Madurai as soon as possible. The petition brought out that a new AIIMS hospital must be opened in Coimbatore also plus the starting of new medical colleges in 6 districts.
In 30 govt medical colleges in TN, a new govt college of nursing must be started. Arrangements must be made to help the medical students from Ukraine to continue their studies in the medical colleges in India. Changes must be done with respect to the draft regulation about medical PG education.
It was also mentioned in the petition that TN must be provided with additional Corona vaccines. Tamil nadu must release the fund approved by the 15th Finance Commision for the financial year 2022-23. Unfilled MBBS seats reserved for the All India quota must be handed over to the state. Fifty new PHC`s must be given approval in Tamil Nadu.
The TN health minister mentioned that initially Rs 1400 crores was planned for the construction of new AIIMS in Madurai. Truth is that now the project estimate has increased to Rs 1900 crores. To prepare the construction plan, a committee has been set up and the preliminary works would begin by the next week. The possibility of building a new AIIMS hospital in Coimbatore would be explored.
