One sensational record happened at the Chennai airport on 23rd of December 2022. On that day, Chennai airport recorded the highest ever footfall of 60375 in 2022 and this is now making news.
In 2020 and in 2021, the footfall at this important airport has been very poor due to the Coronavirus pandemic and lockdown etc. The footfall started to improve here once the Coronavirus infection was brought under control. Truth is that the people started to travel freely without any restriction etc.
In November 2022, the passenger footfall at Chennai airport was 1585199 lakhs and in December it was 1722486 lakhs. This was revealed by some sources belonging to the Chennai airport.
Information collected is that on 23rd of December 2022 the passenger footfall recorded at the Chennai airport was 60375. It was the highest ever for the year 2022. Even in the years 2019 and in 2019 (before Coronavirus pandemic struck), the footfall at Chennai airport did not touch 60000 and it was around 40000 only.
Now, few airlines have decided to operate more flights to Chennai. It is learnt that Air France that has been operating 3 days per week would operate flights for 5days per week from March 2023 onwards. In the same manner, Lufthansa airlines that have been operating 3 days per week would also operate flights for 5 days per week. From 7 flight services per week, Etihad airlines would be operating 14 services per week.
