Mega Order from TN Govt!! - Manufacture & distribution of sarees and dhotis for the public in TN- Latest details?

Three thousand more power looms must be identified for producing sarees and dhotis for free distribution to the people with ration cards as a part of Pongal free gift hamper. This was asked by the TN govt to the TN Federation of Power Looms Association.
It must be recalled that the TN govt has already given orders to make 9956883 dhotis and 12619004 sarees to 225 power loom weavers cooperative societies. As many as 17455 power looms are now engaged in the production of the dhotis and sarees according to the mega order from the TN government.
The commissioner of handlooms Mr. TP. Rajesh has written a letter to the federation to identify 3000 more power looms and to complete the work on time.
Point to be noted is that the federation has been asked to identify power looms and to send a list of looms and contact numbers etc to the Assistant Directors of Handlooms in Erode, Tiruchengode, Coimbatore and Tirupur districts. Usually, the TN govt would place orders for dhotis and sarees in the months of May or June but this time it was delayed and orders were given only in October month
It was revealed by some sources belonging to the Handloom dept that till now just 60 to 70% of sarees has been completed and 45 to 505 of sarees production has been completed.
In 2023, Pongal falls on Sunday and it is only a few days away. It is now said that 50% of the eligible men would not be able to get the dhotis and 30% women would not get sarees. Truth is that another 30 days minimum or even more would be needed to complete the order for dhotis and sarees etc. With almost no time left, it is doubtful that the power-loom cooperative society would execute the order from the TN government.
