Was the Marina Beach really glowing with festive spirit on Kaanum Pongal yesterday?
The Coronavirus pandemic in the last 2 years in Chennai has led to many restrictions and the public was not allowed to visit the Marina Beach for Kaanum pongal celebrations. Now, things are under control and this beach was opened for the public Kaanum Pongal celebrations.
The surprising news is that yesterday the number of visitors here were less when compared with tne pre Covid times. The public who came to the beach were not allowed to go into the sea for baths etc. A regular visitor to the Marina Beach during Kanum Pongal spoke about how this time around inspite of the beach being opened for the public after 2 years the number of people was less.
Before the Covid pandemic, many people came to this beach on Kaanum Pongal day especially and there would be no space available for sitting with the family members. In the last 2 years, there are many who have been spending Kaanum Pongal at their homes (staying away from the crowds) due to the Coronavirus pandemic and these people are continuing this stay at home celebrations even now.
It must be noted that many who came to the beach preferred to use ramps for persons with physical issues . To help these differently able persons , no persons have been deployed at this beach. The Path of the ramp was used by these persons to watch the sea. Recently, a Mandous cyclone damaged the viewing deck here is known.
