The Chennai doctors are now highly concerned because of the cocktail of viruses in the city. This has been leading to many respiratory illnesses and flu cases now. It is known to us that the number of Covid-19 cases have come down drastically in Chennai now but it is the cocktail of viruses that has been troubling the residents. There are also many cases of mosquito borne illness like dengue in the kids and chikungunya in the adults.
According to the infectious diseases expert Dr. V. Ramasubramaniam most of the issues are common this season but have been self limiting mostly Antibiotics are being prescribed to those with secondary bacterial infections. Truth is that most people recover in 3 to 5 days after proper rest.
Chennai based Kanchi Kamakoti Child Trust Hospital senior paediatrician, Dr. S. Balasubramanian spoke about how most kids get exposed to viruses when they are just 2 years of age. The exposure was reduced due to Coronavirus pandemic restrictions like facemasks, social distancing etc. He added that the children must not go to school when they have fever to prevent spreading of the fever. He concluded that doctors` prescription was very important and without that medicines must never be issued to the public.
Point is that by coughing the airways would get cleared. Continuous coughing could make the kids tired and to avoid that the parents could give warm lemon water with honey to them. The superb piece of information is that two spoons of honey at bedtime could reduce the cough in the kids (especially under the age of 5) with upper respiratory tract infection etc.
The experts have mentioned that January would be normally quiet at most hospitals with few cases but low temperature with humidity this year has been helping the growth and survival of the microbes.
