Effect of Valentines Day in Chennai regarding the sales of roses and other flowers etc!!

There is now an adequate supply of roses and due to this the price of roses has come down drastically now on the eve of Valentine`s day at the Koyambedu flower market. Now, in Chennai,a rose bunch with 20 roses cost Rs 300 to Rs 350 but in the past it was Rs 500. It was brought to light by some flower traders that the steady inflow has resulted in the reduction in the prices of the flowers now.
It was mentioned by Mr. S. Mookandi, secretary,Koyambedu Flower Merchants Association that earlier a bunch of roses would cost Rs 450 to Rs 500 and there would be superb sales of the roses before and on Valentine`s day. He added that this year the sales of flowers have come down by 30percent. The increase in the production of flowers was due to the heavy rains due to the NE monsoon in 2022. There has been a decrease in the prices of other flowers like jasmine, marigold, royal jasmine, tuberose etc in Chennai.
The rose rates in the retail shops in Chennai have increased. This was as epr a retailer at the Flower Bazaar in George Town in north Chennai. He added that for the last 2 days there has been brisk sales. It is now expected that the prices of the roses would surge on Tuesday.
The presence of many markets in Chennai in places such as Kodambakkam, Avadi, Tambaram, Parry`s Corner, Madhavaram etc post Covid19 infection has led to the poor sales now.
