Latest important announcement from the TN Govt for Chennai and other cities!!

Important cities in the state of Tamil Nadu such as Chennai, Trichy, Coimbatore, Madurai, Salem and Tirunelveli have been announced as electric vehicle cities now. This has grabbed the attention of many.

It must be noted that in cities like Chennai etc measures are being taken now to use electric vehicles instead of fuel vehicles to face the change in the climate plus to avoid pollution etc.

There would be electric buses operated in ChennaiI by the government of TamilNadu in the first phase. To purchase electric buses, a tender has been called for also. Now, more people in Chennai use electric 2 wheelers and 4 wheelers etc to reach their destinations in the city.

In this situation, the Tamil Nadu govt has announced 6 cities as electric vehicle cities in the state. Therefore, cities like Chennai, Trichy, Coimbatore, Madurai, Tirunelveli and Salem have been announced as electric vehicles cities. In these 6 cities, the government buses would be converted into  fully electric vehicles in the next 10 years.

Smart Mobility Scheme:
It is learnt that commissioners of 6 cities would be appointed as nodal officers and a smart mobility plan would be made under them. A target has been set to convert the govt buses and autos etc in these 6 cities into electric vehicles in the next 10 years. Through public-private partnership, charging stations would be set up by the TN govt in these 6 cities.

Electric buses:
The government of TN would gradually be converting the government buses into electric vehicles. By the year 2030, 30% of the total govt buses would become electric buses.

Two wheelers:
The sales of 2 wheelers have been on the rise in the state of Tamil Nadu. In the month of January 2023 alone, as many as 1423 two wheelers have been produced by the Eicher Motors company. Till January, Eischer Motors had sold 7500 scooters. It is noteworthy that 78percent of the total registered vehicles in Tn are two wheelers only. Now, TN has decided to increase the sales of the electric 2 wheelers by providing incentives etc.
