As a protest, the schools in Tamil Nadu will suspend their transport operation on 26th of August. The central excise department has been forcing schools to register for service tax imposed on auxiliary services provided, including food, transportation, extra-curricular activities, conduct of special examinations like Olympiads and field trips.
Education is on concurrent list and hence Central Government should consult the State Government on this issue. Associations representing schools in other parts of the country, including Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi and Rajasthan, are also coming together to meet MPs in their respective states to present their case.
In view of the foregoing the schools have decided to suspend transport operations on coming Monday to draw the attention of the Tamil Nadu State Government.
