With no public toilets nearby, the public now use the walls of the Basin Bridge that was painted just 3 months back under the Singara Chennai 2.0 initiative as public urinals. This is really shocking now. It is important to note that the whole area stinks and this is creating issues. Traffic inspector mentioned that he had warned many who tried to urinate on the stretch. Point is that the warnings have not been taken seriously by the public. The people who walk past the stretch are worst affected now.
It must be recalled that recently the corporation commissioner had instructed the officials to collect fines from those who urinate on the streets but the officials put the responsibility on others.
The officials spoke about how the bridge falls under the jurisdiction of zone 6 that is Thiru Vi ka Nagar. It is noteworthy that the bridge belongs to the Highways dept but the sanitary maintenance is carried out by the Chennai corporation.
