In the 29 toll plazas in Tamil Nadu, there would be an increase of 5% to 10% toll fee amount. This is now making sensational news.
Under NHAI or National Highways Authority of India, there are 55 toll plazas in TN. It is usual to change the toll fees in 29 toll plazas on 1st of April and in remaining toll plazas on 1st of September.
It is learnt that a proposal regarding an increase in the toll fee amount has been prepared by the National Highways Authority Project Implementation Division. By 25th March, the proposal would be sent to the Ministry of Roads and Transport. After the approval from the ministry, an increase in the toll fee amount would come into effect on 1st April. It is noteworthy that the toll fee increase would be 5% for cars and other light weight vehicles and 10% for heavy weight vehicles.
Point is that if the toll fee amount is increased from 1st of April in 20 toll plazas the cars would have to pay an extra amount of Rs 5 to Rs 15 for one way trip at the toll booths near Chennai.
An additional fare of Rs 50 to Rs 100 would have to be paid from Chennai to places like Madurai, Coimbatore etc. The toll fee would be waived up to 40% in the areas within the city limits and this was as per Central government. Now, toll fees would be increased at all toll plazas like Paranur, Vanagaram etc in Chennai and its surrounding places.
