Nehru grabbed many eyeballs when he announced drinking water supply projects in the Chennai city. Soon, Korukkupet would get storage tanks of 10 mld and 3mld capacity. An amount of Rs 18 cr would be spent for laying 25 new water pipelines.
The minister later confirmed that the places like OMR, MGR Nagar Main Road, Taramani Link Road and 200 feet roAd etc would get piped drinking water supply for Rs 57 cr. More Chennai city areas would be covered by these projects.Soon, 150 mld of water from Nemmeli desal plant would also be supplied in the city. It must be noted that a 400 mld plant is getting ready in Perur.
It was brought to light by the RK. Nagar legislator JJ. Ebenezer that a storage tank of 10 mld would not be enough to provide water supply for the entire neighbourhood. The residents hereafter need not depend on the water tankers. He concluded that the pressure of water in the pipes would be better and it could meet the demand.
