As summer vacation approaches, the Chennai Corporation has announced plans to improve facilities in 150 parks throughout the city. The upgrades will include additional seating, footpaths, fountains, and colored electric lights, as well as the planting of native trees and saplings from Andhra Pradesh Rajamahendravaram. The improvements aim to create a more enjoyable and accessible environment for visitors, particularly children and those with disabilities.
Municipal Administration and Water Supply Minister KN Nehru has also revealed plans to create new parks in vacant open areas and to install exercise equipment designed for use by disabled people. Additionally, the Corporation has urged the public to report any need for recreational facilities in their ward and to lodge complaints if there are insufficient resources in sports grounds or parks.
The improvements come as part of the Singhara Chennai 2.0 project, with at least Rs 30 crore allocated to improve recreational facilities across the city. With an additional Rs 77 crore earmarked for the construction of parks and playgrounds in open spaces, Chennai is set to become an even more vibrant and accessible city for residents and visitors alike.
