The Tamil Nadu state government is planning to enhance road connectivity from the Bengaluru-Chennai expressway and East Coast Road to the GST road to boost cargo transportation to and from Chennai airport. The state highways will conduct a feasibility study for building an elevated corridor connecting the Pallavaram flyover to the Chennai bypass, convert Pallavaram-Thoraipakkam`s six-lane radial road into an expressway, and extend it from Rajiv Gandhi Salai to ECR via Thoraipakkam.

The Bengaluru-Chennai expressway, which is under construction and is planned to be completed by December next year, will also have an elevated road linking Sriperumbudur to Maduravoyal. The project will provide a direct link to GST, making the airport cargo terminal much closer to the express highway and Bengaluru bypass. The development of a new road from Thoraipakkam to Neelankarai will also reduce travel time.
