At many Aavin outlets in Chennai, butter is not available now. The consumers are unhappy and they have complained about the continuous short supply of butter for over a period.
Not only butter, but other value added products like ghee and buttermilk were also short in supply at many Aavin outlets. Even the Aavin outlet that was run directly by the Aavin management did not have stocks of butter etc.
It was brought out by an Aavin dealer that for almost a month there has been no butter stock and despite complaining no action has been taken.
A shopkeeper at an Aavin outlet at Egmore spoke about how every day on the Aavin app he used to update the products that were needed but ghee and butter were not supplied. He threw light on how he had lost many consumers now. As per an Aavin outlet owner it was clear that some party workers owning Aavin outlets use political clout and procure in bulk from the originating supply chain leading to shortage.
The cattle lump disease has affected the production of milk and this was explained by a senior official from Aavin. He hinted that milk products are being procured from the neighbouring states to manage the demand.
