The government is set to enhance the scope of the website www.sancharsaathi.gov.in, which aids in tracking lost mobile phones. Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw will dedicate the revamped website to the nation on May 17, coinciding with World Telecommunication and Information Society Day. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) announced the launch of the citizen-centric Sanchar Saathi portal on Twitter, emphasizing its significance in empowering mobile subscribers and bolstering their security.

Currently, the website serves users in Delhi and Mumbai circles, but the upcoming revamp will extend its reach nationwide. Users will be able to track and locate their lost or stolen mobile phones connected to any telecom circle. Additionally, the portal offers various functionalities, including accessing SIM card numbers, blocking unauthorized usage, and verifying the authenticity of devices during the purchase of new or used mobile phones.

The Powered By TAFCOP feature enables mobile subscribers to review the mobile connections registered in their name and report any unnecessary or unauthorized connections. Notably, the portal has facilitated the blocking of approximately 4,70,000 lost or stolen mobile phones and the successful tracking of over 2,40,000 devices. Moreover, around 8,000 phones have been recovered through the portal, according to official sources.

The expansion of the Sanchar Saathi website will provide citizens across the country with a valuable tool to protect their mobile phones, enhance security, and promote a safer digital ecosystem.
