As the arrival of vegetables from other districts and states to Chennai`s Koyambedu wholesale vegetable, flower, and fruit market has reduced, vegetable prices have shot up. Ginger is being sold at Rs. 200/- per kg, and beans are being sold at Rs. 110/- per kg.
Although ginger comes in large quantities from the state of Karnataka to Koyambedu, the amount of ginger arriving from Karnataka has reduced. Therefore, with a further reduction in the quantity of arrival, the price of ginger has shot up and touched a peak. Ginger is being sold at wholesale shops in the Koyambedu market at Rs. 200/- per kg. In retail shops, ginger is being sold at up to Rs. 240/- per kg!
In this regard, one of the ginger traders shared that many farmers stopped growing ginger as sufficient prices were not prevailing for the last 2 years. As a result, the quantity of ginger arrival has reduced greatly. This trend of high ginger prices may continue for a few more days.
Similarly, the arrival of beans has also reduced, and as a result, the price of beans has shot up and is being sold at Rs. 110/- per kg. In retail shops, beans are being sold at up to Rs. 140/- per kg!
