An appeal has been made on the school teachers behalf that the schools must be reopened after the summer vacation only on the 17th of June!
The last terms for the last academic year (2022-23) were completed on the 28th of April and then summer vacation was declared for the schools for 1 month. Tamil Nadu State Minister for School Education, Anbil Magesh, had announced that the schools will be reopened as scheduled on the 1st of June.
The schools will reopen on the 1st of June for the classes from the 6th Standard to the 12th Standard (+2). For the students of classes 1st Standard to 5th Standard, the schools will reopen after summer vacation on the 5th of June.
However, this announcement has pend for debate from various aspects. With this year`s summer of especially scorching heat, it is essential that the reopening of schools be postponed.
Especially, there has been an appeal on behalf of the teachers that the reopening of schools after summer vacation MUST be postponed.
In this regard, the President of the Tamil Nadu Art Teachers` Association Rajkumar shared:
"This year, the summer has been especially more scorching in all districts! A maximum temperature of higher than 100 Degrees Fahrenheit is recorded in most places! As such, the young children and women are confined to remain in their residences without venturing outside!
Further, counselling for transfer of school teachers is also in progress. Many teachers have been getting transfers to their preferred locations. As such, some time duration must be given for these teachers to join duty at the new place!
Further, all the textbooks and notebooks are to be made ready and sent to the respective schools.
Also, parents who had taken their children to other places for summer vacation need to return to their workplace and find it difficult to get the bus/train tickets!
So, some time extension has to be given for the above factors and as such, the schools MUST reopen on the 17th of June after the summer vacations!"
