All the private schools in Chennai and in TN would have to teach Tamil subjects compulsorily in a phased manner for the students of the classes 1 to 10. This was mentioned in a circular from the director of private schools.
The school education dept has directed to extend teaching Tamil subjects till class 10 and this was under Section 2 of TN Learning Act 2006. The dept noted that from the academic year 2024-25 all the private schools affiliated to other boards apart from the TN state board would have to make sure that all the students from classes 1 to 10 are taught Tamil.
It is important to mention here that in case of students who have not opted for Tamil in the classes 9 and 10 the child would have to be mandatorily taught Tamil as a compulsory language. This would be carried out as a part of the respective board examination requirements.
The circular also threw light on how the director of the private schools would be responsible for the syllabus as well sthe exam pattern. The DGE, TN would conduct the final written exam for Tamil paper for classes 10 for all the private schools. A separate certificate would also be issued to the students.
