By 2027, CMRL or Chennai Metro Rail limited has planned to start operating metro trains services from Nehru Nagar in Perungudi to Siruseri. It is now said that this would transform the public transport system of many people living and commuting from OMR or Old Mahabalipuram Road. This upcoming metro train services between the above said places would be a part of metro phase 2 project.
A mammoth amount of Rs 61,843 crores would be spent on the 116km phase-2 project. It is noteworthy that this 20km stretch would be a part of corridor-3. There would be metro stations in places like Nehru Nagar, Kandhanchavadi, Perungudi, Thoraipakkam, Mettupakkam,PTC Colony, Okkiam Thoraipakkam, Sholinganallur, Sholinganallur Lake -1, Sholinganallur like-2 metro, Semmencheri 1 meter, Semmencherry 2 metro, Gandhi Nagar, Navalur, Siruseri, Siruseri SIPCOT 1 metro and Siruseri SIPCOT 2 metro.
The other 2 corridors in the phase 2 metro rail project are 44.2km Madhavaram to Sholinganallur stretch and 26.1 LightHouse to Poonamallee stretch.
