In a momentous announcement, Southern Railway has fulfilled the long-awaited dream of the people of Theni district by introducing a direct train service from Chennai to Bodi via Theni. The Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, L Murugan, will flag off the inaugural train on June 15, marking a significant milestone in the region`s transportation infrastructure.
The newly introduced train, identified as Train No. 20602, will commence its journey from Chennai Central at 10.30 pm, reaching Bodi at 9.35 am the following morning. The train will make stops at major stations such as Madurai, Usilampatti, Andipatti, and Theni, catering to the growing transportation needs of these areas. The return journey, Train No. 20601, will depart Bodi at 8.30 pm, stop at Theni, Andipatti, Usilampatti, and Madurai, before arriving back in Chennai at 7.55 am.
Simultaneously, to cater to the daily commuter needs, Southern Railway has introduced Train No. 06702, an unreserved express special, which will operate on a daily basis between Theni and Bodi. This new service will significantly enhance connectivity and convenience for the residents of Theni district, eliminating the need for passengers to change trains at Madurai when traveling to Chennai.
The announcement follows the approval from the Railway Board to extend the existing MGR Chennai Central - Madurai express up to Bodinayakanur, after the completion of the Madurai - Bodi broad gauge conversion work. The extended train services are scheduled to commence from June 16, heralding a new era of efficient and seamless transportation for the people of Theni district.
