Heavy rain is expected for two days in nine districts, including Thiruvallur and Kanchipuram, in Tamil Nadu. The state has been experiencing intense heat this year, with temperatures exceeding 100 degrees in several districts, including Chennai. Meteorological officials have indicated that the heatwave is likely to gradually subside from next week.
Amidst this scorching weather, the Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall in the aforementioned nine districts for a period of two days. Senthamaraik Kannan, Director of the Meteorological Center, stated that Puducherry and Tamil Nadu could record temperatures of over 105 degrees today. The occurrence of heavy rain in select districts is attributed to the western wind and the prevailing heatwave.
The districts expected to receive heavy rain on the 18th and 19th are Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Ranipet, Tirupattur, Vellore, Thiruvannamalai, Dharmapuri, Kallakurichi, and Salem. Additionally, Trichy, Perambalur, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, and Ariyalur districts may experience heavy rain on the 18th, followed by Namakkal and Erode districts on the 19th.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon has gained momentum, with its onset occurring in Kerala on the 8th of this month. Rainfall has already been observed in the hilly regions of Courtalam. While early signs of the monsoon have emerged, the full-fledged season is expected to commence in a few days.
