By the month of October, there would be a restaurant on wheels at the famous Central railway station. For this, a condemned second class coach would be converted into a top class restaurant on wheels.
To refurbish and to operate the unique superb dining experience, the Chennai Division belonging to Southern Railways or SR has awarded a contract worth Rs 95 lakhs to a private company.
This second class coach would be totally renovated and repainted and would become an air-conditioned restaurant. The passengers could soon be able to enjoy their meals here before boarding their trains. On Thursday morning, the second class coach was transported to the Central railway station. It is now mentioned by some Railways officers that similar restaurants would also be established in Potheri, Kattankolathur and Perambur etc.
As many as 40 passengers could enjoy their food at this upcoming new restaurant at Central station. To create an unique experience , a rail themed interior design would be present inside the restaurant. Railway enthusiasts could get high quality meals here in the future. It is now brought to light that experienced restaurant operators are being sought through an e-auction process following a tender invitation from the Chennai division of SR.
