To rescue those who are struck up in the inundated and in the low lying localities in Chennai, GCP or greater chennai police is buying additional emergency kits worth Rs 75 lakhs. This is now done ahead of the monsoons.
In about 80 low lying places in Chennai, there has been severe water stagnation and this was due to three days of heavy rains in the city. There would be flooding in this year also in Chennai and its suburbs as the SWD is pending in many stretches in Chennai.
To reach the flood affected places as soon as possible, the GCP are now gearing up and they have been buying additional emergency kits.
The GCP would also be buying as many as 94 different items like breathing apparatus, inflatable rescue boats, search lights, handy cameras, night vision lights, binoculars and lifebuoy rings etc.By the end of July 2023, the successful bidder would start supplying the items.
To buy these additional emergency items, GCO would be utilising the money that has been sanctioned by the state disaster management authority, This was mentioned by the additional police commissioner Mr. J. Loganathan.
The role of police personnel during the times of emergency is as important as the role played by national and state disaster relief teams. This was as per a retired ACP. He added that the role of police forces was rated low in such crucial times. He added that the additional emergency kits would make the police personnel not to depend on the specialist teams.
