On 13th of June 2023, CMRL changed the parking tariffs for non commuters.
Motorists who park their vehicles safely in the metro stations in Chennai are now really upset and angry. The reason for that is mainly due to the latest decision taken by CMRL regarding parking of vehicles. It is noteworthy that CMRL has increased the parking fee to prevent the non commuters from parking their vehicles at the metro stations in Chennai. Now, these persons would have to look out for some other place to park their vehicles.
It was later explained by some officers from CMRL that the hike in the parking fees was done mainly to make more people use metro trains. Point is that the commuters of other modes of transport like MTC, MRTS etc park their vehicles at the metro parking lots as it is much safer.
A regular vehicle user spoke about how he used to park his vehicle at Guindy metro station and catch a suburban train to reach his destination. He added that to access the suburban stations parking lot he had to detour 2to 3 kms. He concluded that CMRL could help the commuters regarding parking spaces etc.
Another vehicle user expressed his thoughts and mentioned that he would have to spend more now for parking his vehicle at a new parking lot. It is learnt that the suburban station in Guindy is not safe for parking vehicles as they get damaged. Many park their vehicles at the parking spaces that are present between on the Nandanam to AGDMS stretch.
