In response to the ongoing Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) construction near Light House, the Greater Chennai Traffic Police (GCTP) has announced traffic diversions on the Marina beach service road. This arrangement is expected to be in effect for a period of one year, starting from Thursday.

The affected portion of the service road, spanning 480 meters in length and with an entire width of 7.02 meters, will be temporarily closed for public use during this period. The decision has been taken to facilitate the safe and uninterrupted progress of the CMRL project.

Here are the key traffic diversions:

1. Vehicles coming from Loop Road, intending to proceed towards War Memorial along Marina Beach Service Road from Light House, will be restricted from their original route. Instead, they will be directed to take Kamarajar Salai to reach the War Memorial.

2. Vehicles originating from Kamarajar Salai will not be allowed to use the service road to reach their desired destination. They are advised to continue on Kamarajar Salai following the diversion.

3. Similarly, vehicles coming from War Memorial, with the intention to proceed to Light House, are not permitted to use Marina Beach Service Road. Instead, they will be allowed to ply on Kamarajar Salai to reach their destination.

4. Vehicles intending to enter the Marina Beach Service Road from Light House are permitted to proceed only up to the restricted area behind the Gandhi Statue. To access Kamarajar Salai, motorists must take a U-turn at the restricted area and make a right turn at the lighthouse junction.

5. Likewise, vehicles intending to enter the Marina Beach Service Road from War Memorial are allowed to proceed only until the restricted area behind the Gandhi Statue. Motorists must take a U-turn at the restricted area and then take a left turn at Lloyds Road towards Kamarajar Salai to reach their destination.
