Fantastic renovation of MTC buses and other buses by using the latest technology!!

About 21000 buses are being operated by MTC in Chennai plus by the Govt Rapid Transport Corporation and by the State Transport Corporation Divisions in places like Villupuram, Kumbakonam, Madurai, Nellai, Salem and Kovai etc. It is known that the passengers who travel in these buses find it very difficult as the rains would enter the buses due to damaged cages and windows/ seats etc are also not in good condition.
A decision was taken to build a new cage for these buses and for this more than 1000 buses were chosen from several state transport corporations. To renovate the buses with the help of modern technology, Rs 152.5 cr has been allocated.
Point is that buses that have run for 6 to 8 years or travelled 7lakh to 8 lakh kilometer distance have been selected. In these buses, chassis were good but cages have been damaged. These buses have been renovated or refurbished by private bus builders. Information is that in phase one 125 buses with modern technology would be commissioned within a couple of weeks.
It was mentioned by the transport minister Mr S. Sivashankar that upgrading the cages of 1000 old buses with the latest new technology has been going on. He added that the renovation works have been going on in the private cage building companies present in the places like Viralimalai, Maduranthakam, Karur, Bangalore etc. In one or two weeks, the 125 buses that have been given in the first phase for renovation works will be ready for public use.
