Workshop on ‘How to Make a Movie’ held in Chennai today!

A day long workshop on ‘How to make a movie’ was held for around fifty five participants who include Visual Communication degree students, film teachers, assistant directors and film lovers at DeSales International Film and Media Academy today.

‘Unless we master the 24 crafts of film making, we cannot create an impact in people’s mind through our films’ said Rasi Azhagappan, the award winning film maker who had worked with Padmashree  Kamalahasan for over 15 years.  Narrating his experiences during the making of the box office hit ‘Dever Magan’ he explained about the importance of story, script and direction in film making. ‘We need to be closer to  reality and tell the story from audience’s point of view’ asserted Rasi Azhagappan during presentation.

Mr. Alfred Prakash, the script writer of the recent successful film ‘Por Thozhil’ shared on how he wrote the script for the film ‘Por Thizhil’ that took four long years.   ‘The clapping sound for my first drama during my school days became the source of inspiration for my script writing career’ said Mr. Prakash, a video journalist turned script writer. He explained various stages of script writing and stressed the need for creative decision making while scripting for films. 

The participants were given a series of exercises to write stories, scripts and their views on films during the workshop. 

‘The workshop has created tremendous interest in me towards film making and it taught me  how to approach it in a professional and systematic manner’ said  Janani Priyanka, a Viscom student from Ennore. 

Fr. J. Stephen, the Director of the Academy thanked the resource persons and the participants for their active involvement in the workshop and assured his support to them in training and production of  value based films, which is one of the main objectives of the academy.
