The Chennai Railway Division has recently unveiled the updated schedule for electric train services in the Chennai suburban area. While these trains have long played a crucial role in connecting Chennai`s suburbs, it has been reported that the frequency of services has been significantly reduced.

Previously, electric trains ran at intervals of 5 to 15 minutes, connecting Chennai Central to Aavadi, Thiruvallur, Arakkonam, Kummidipoondi, and Meenjoor areas, while also operating between Chennai Coast and Tambaram as well as Chengalpattu. However, the new schedule for the current year reveals a decrease in the number of services.

The previous count of 128 electric train services originating from Chennai Central, Velachery, and Chennai Coast has been reduced to 124 in the current schedule. Similarly, the train services between Chennai Beach and Tambaram, along with Chengalpattu, have undergone changes. Eight trains have been canceled, resulting in a total of 116 trains being operational on this route.

Additionally, the flying train services from Chennai Coast to Velachery have experienced alterations. Previously, 70 flying trains were available daily, which had been reduced to 61 in the revised train schedule. This follows a reduction from 80 to 70 flying trains in the previous year, with the latest adjustment bringing the count down to 61.

In response to these modifications, a railway official stated that the changes were implemented to better accommodate existing passengers` needs. The official clarified that no new trains have been announced; instead, adjustments have been made to the timings of existing services and some trains have been canceled.

The Chennai suburban electric train schedule, albeit with reduced services, aims to streamline operations and ensure optimal convenience for passengers. Commuters are advised to familiarize themselves with the updated timetable to avoid any inconvenience caused by the recent modifications.
