The Greater Chennai Corporation has announced the organization of special camps for the Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme, aimed at empowering women, from July 25 to August 16. The camps will be conducted in two phases across the city, with detailed guidelines issued to ensure a smooth process.
During the camps, ration shop employees will distribute application forms and tokens to ration cardholders, providing them with information on how to apply for the scheme. The camps have been divided into two phases: the first phase will be held from July 24 to August 4, followed by the second phase from August 5 to 16.
Applicants can visit the camps between 9:30 am and 1 pm, as well as between 2 pm and 5 pm. It is important to note that the application form must be filled out exclusively at the camps. Applicants are required to bring their Aadhar card, ration card, electricity receipt, and bank passbook for verification purposes. No additional documents, such as income proof or property documents, need to be attached.
Information regarding the streets, wards, and camp details will be displayed on notice boards in the ration shops. To ensure the accuracy of the application process, applicants must ensure their Aadhar number is entered correctly and their fingerprints are verified through a biometric device. In case of incorrect fingerprints, the applicant will receive an OTP to the mobile number linked to their Aadhar card.
Eligibility for the Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme is limited to individuals who have reached 21 years of age. Only one beneficiary per ration card is allowed to apply, except in cases where the male is listed as the family head on the ration card, in which case his wife becomes eligible. In families with multiple eligible females, a single person can be chosen to apply for the scheme, including unmarried women and transgenders.
