There are prospects for heavy rain today (Tuesday, 25th July) in 5 districts in Tamil Nadu State including Chennai, Coimbatore and Nilgiri.
In a notification released in this regard by the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre, it is mentioned:
"Due to the phenomenon of the changing speeds in the westerly winds blowing towards Tamil Nadu, there are prospects for very heavy rains until the forenoon session today (Tuesday, 25th July) in the mountainous region including Coimbatore and Nilgiri.
There are prospects for heavy rain in 1 or 2 places in the districts of Nilgiri, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Theni and Dindigul.
Chennai Metro City and its suburbs will remain somewhat cloudy. There are prospects for medium rain in a few places. A maximum temperature of 32 Degrees Fahrenheit is expected.
High-speed winds at 65 kmph blow at the southern districts` coastal areas, the Bay of Mannar, the Kanyakumari Ocean, the Tamil Nadu & Andhra coastal areas and the central-west Bay of Bengal.
High-speed winds at 55 kmph will blow across Lakhdiv, Kerala & Karnataka coastal areas, and the Central-east Arabian Sea.
As such, the fishermen are advised NOT to venture into the sea in these areas.
The maximum rainfall yesterday (Monday, 24th July) recorded in cm: Chinnakkallaru – 11, Avalanche, Naduvattam – 9, Pandhalur – 8, Adavinayinar Dam, Thirunelveli - 4, Kattumannarkoil, Lalpettai, Maanjolai – 2, Other places -1.
