Travelling during the day time between Chennai and Tirunelveli would soon become a reality for many passengers.
Previously on 22nd of November 2022, Vande Bharat train between Chennai and Mysore was launched and it made sensational news. Later, on 8th of April 2023, a Vande Bharat train was launched between Chennai& Coimbatore.
The latest amazing news is that a third Vande Bharat trai would be launched this August and it would run between Chennai and Tirunelveli.
It has been four months since the electrification and doubling works have been completed on the Madurai-Tirunelveli section. Soon, the 26th VB train will be running between Chennaia and Tirunelveli. In India, till now 25 VB trains have been carrying many passengers between cities is known.
On 6th August 2023, the PM of India Mr. Narendra Modi would be launching the semi high speed VB train. It is now brought to light that the 8 car VB train would originate from Tirunelveli in the morning and it would reach Chennai Egmore in the afternoon. The VB train would cover about 650km in 8 hours and it would have stoppages in VirudhuNagar, Madurai and Trichy.
Currently, Nellai Express takes about 10 hours and 40 minutes for the journey between Chennai and Tirunelveli. Likewise, Kanniyakumari Express and Nagercoil Express takes about 11 hours for the journey during the night time.
It is now mentioned that the introduction of VB trains between Chennai and Tirunelveli would provide the much needed day time travelling option for many passengers. It was explained by an officer from the Madurai Division that the VB train between Chennai and Tirunelveli would be fantastic as it would not only reduce the demand for night trains but would also p[rovide faster connectivity to the southern places in TamilNadu.
During the weekends and during the festival seasons etc, the Chennai-Tirunelveli-Nagercoil section normally witnesses huge demand for tickets. This has made the Omni buses to charge huge amounts for tickets. The passengers are being forced to pay huge amounts as they do not have any other option. Now, with the launch of a VB train between Chennai and Tirunelveli, the frestive rush would reduce significantly in this section. The passengers belonging to Madurai, Trichy and Virudhunagar would be benefited.
On Monday, 31st July2023, the Madurai railway division gave instructions to offcers to complete the necessary works for maintaining VB rake at the Tirunelveli yard.
