Traffic Diversions Announced in Chennai for Independence Day Rehearsals Near Fort St. George

The Greater Chennai City Traffic Police (GCTP) has unveiled a comprehensive plan for traffic diversions on three mornings this week to accommodate Independence Day rehearsals near Fort St. George. The traffic modifications will be in place on August 4, 10, and 13, starting from 6 a.m. until the conclusion of the rehearsals.

To ensure smooth proceedings during the rehearsals, the following diversions will be enforced:

1. Kamarajar Salai and Rajaji Salai Closure: The stretch of Kamarajar Salai, from Napier Bridge up to the RBI Subway North on Rajaji Salai, and Flag Staff Road, will be closed for all vehicular traffic except for vehicles carrying valid passes.

2. Alternate Routes for Kamarajar Salai-bound Vehicles: Vehicles on Kamarajar Salai intending to proceed towards Parry’s Corner via Rajaji Salai shall take the route via Swami Sivananda Salai, Anna Salai, Muthusamy Bridge, Muthusamy Road, Raja Annamalai Mandram, and NFS Road to reach Parry’s Corner.

3. Alternate Routes for Rajaji Salai-bound Vehicles: Vehicles on Rajaji Salai, intending to proceed towards Kamarajar Salai via Rajaji Salai, will take the route via NFS Road, Raja Annamalai Mandram, Muthusamy Road, Muthusamy Bridge, Anna Salai, and Wallajah Road to reach Kamarajar Salai.

4. Alternate Routes for Vehicles from Anna Salai: Vehicles coming from Anna Salai and intending to proceed towards Parry’s Corner and Kamarajar Salai via Flag Staff Road will take the route via Muthusamy Bridge, Muthusamy Road, R.A. Mandram, and NFS Road to reach Parry’s Corner, and Anna Salai and Wallajah Road to reach Kamarajar Salai, respectively.

The GCTP urges all commuters to plan their travel accordingly during the mentioned days and follow the designated alternative routes to avoid any inconvenience.
