Tomato Prices Experience Slight Dip Amidst Increased Supply

In a notable turn of events, the cost of tomatoes, a staple vegetable, has witnessed a modest decline owing to a surge in supply. Presently, tomatoes are retailing at Rs 90 per kilogram in the bustling Koyambedu market. In contrast, onions are priced at Rs 22, shallots at Rs 80, carrots at Rs 60, beans at Rs 50, beetroot at Rs 40, okra at Rs 30, ginger at Rs 210, and raw mangoes at Rs 100.

The recent drop in tomato prices comes as a relief, considering the unprecedented inflation they experienced due to untimely rains that led to crop damage and subsequent supply shortages. Authorities were compelled to implement various strategies, including the distribution of tomatoes through ration shops, in an effort to stabilize and curb the soaring prices.
