Now, the award for the best performing GCC zone goes to Teynampet zone!!

A piece of news that would make the residents of Teynampet zone feel happy and proud!!
Among the 15 zones belonging to GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation, Teynampet zone has been awarded as the best performing zone by the TN govt. The prize amount of Rs 30 lakhs would be given to Teynampet zone. The north Chennai based Royapuram zone of GCC has come second and it would receive Rs 20lakhs.
Factors or parameters or criteria used by the TN govt to award the zones were the presence of clean roads, proper waste management, speedy work progress, no potholes on the roads and jobs generated among other civic and social aspects.
According to Dr. N. Ezhilan, MLA of Thousand Lights whose constituency covers Teynampet zone in Chennai it was clear that he and other officers carried out frequent inspections and ensured follow-ups etc for resolving issues. He spoke about how all the 15 GCC zones were rated based on the point based system of 800 marks.
It is well known that GCC would choose one of the wards from Teynapet for the Union government`s city beauty contest. Here too, the same civic and beautification parameters would be used. Some residents from teynampet zone have mentioned openly that there was a scope for improvement.
