In a significant move aimed at offering support to the families of non-resident Tamils in the event of their untimely demise abroad, the Tamil Nadu government has announced a comprehensive financial assistance program. As per an official press release, the government will provide financial aid of ₹12,000 for educational expenses and ₹20,000 for wedding expenses for the deceased person`s children.

For non-resident Tamils belonging to low-income groups who reside overseas and tragically pass away in those countries, this initiative by the Tamil Nadu government promises essential assistance. The financial support of ₹12,000 is earmarked for the educational expenses of the deceased person`s son or daughter, while an additional ₹20,000 will be granted to cover wedding expenses for their children, as outlined in the official press release.

The administration of this program will be overseen by the Non-Resident Tamils` Welfare Board, which will issue comprehensive implementation guidelines in due course. To qualify for these benefits, applicants are required to be registered with the Board, ensuring that the assistance reaches those who need it most.

Furthermore, the press release specifies that students pursuing courses in medicine, engineering, agriculture, diploma programs, and polytechnic institutes, provided they have secured admission into these programs, will be eligible to apply for financial assistance to support their educational pursuits. This inclusive approach is a testament to the government`s commitment to empowering the youth and extending its support to families facing unforeseen challenges due to overseas circumstances.
